SHE shuns 'girlie' tag

Fashion Cafe

JAKARTA (JP): Four attractive figures were up on stage, singing and dancing before a huge enthusiastic crowd. They rocked the night with their girlie voices and dynamic movements.

Spice Girls in town? No, it was Solid HarmoniE, whose single I'll Be There For You hit the top of the charts in September, performing here last week on a promotion tour.

The all-female act, also known by the abbreviation SHE, sang with passion, energy and heart, conveying an embracing energy that seemed to speak to the audience.

But they claim they are not the average girl group.

"We re not just singers. We are not just dancers. We have personalities and characters and insight that make us more than pop entertainers and more than a girl group," said member Beki Onslow.

The group is Britons, Beki, 22, Melissa Graham, 19, and Marlama Goodman, 19, and American Elisa Cariera, 19.

Their fans say they have charm and grace, and most importantly the talent to not only make it in the big leagues, but to carve a niche for themselves as divas of a new millennium. (sim)
