Shangri-La appeals to Supreme Court

JAKARTA: The management of the Shangri-La hotel has appealed against a court ruling forcing it to reinstate 79 employees dismissed last year.

Shangri-La's senior manager Wastu Widianto on Thursday called on all parties involved in the dispute to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court to which it had appealed.

On May 1 last year, the Central Committee of Industrial Dispute Resolution had allowed the hotel management to dismiss 561 workers who had staged a rally from Dec. 22 to Dec. 26, 2000.

On March 26, the State Administrative High Court overturned the decision, saying that the hotel had to employ the 79 workers.

The industrial dispute had paralyzed the hotel for three months, causing huge financial losses.

Of the 561 workers dismissed by management, 79 rejected the decision, while 482 others voluntarily resigned and received compensation.--JP
