Shameful promises
I am enclosing a photocopy of a letter that came to my attention on March 27, 1997. I am a British expatriate who has worked for over ten years in construction of North Sea offshore platforms and so have an in- depth knowledge of the industry. I would ask you to warn your readers not to send any money to any company which promises to find people employment in the North Sea. I believe that the enclosed letter is just a shameful attempt to trick unsuspecting people out of money. The North Sea drilling and operating companies do not need to find workers from far off countries as there are millions of unemployed people in the UK and Europe who would be happy to work offshore for far less than the salary in the enclosed letter. Also, no reputable company would ask prospective employees to send money to be registered for work. That is illegal in the UK.
