Sex shop in Surabaya?

From Media Indonesia

It is quite unbelievable that amidst campaigns against social misbehavior and national efforts to decrease the number of moral trespassers, or of any other form of crime like rape, drug abuse, etc., a sex shop in Surabaya, Tunjungan Plaza II, is selling sex tools.

This is truly regrettable. In liberal countries, the United States for instance, sex shops are not allowed to operate on Plazas or shopping areas frequented by the public. They are also not permitted to display or showcase their ware openly. Customers themselves are subject to an age limit of 21 years or older.

As an Eastern nation upholding Eastern morals which may be different from the Western ones, our business or ethical values should be maintained and preserved at all times. Sex shops are, therefore, clearly outside the norms of our nation. It is regrettable that something like this could have happened. It reveals a superficial view and a blatant desire to make huge profits without any concern for possible aftereffects.

We would like to suggest that the local government, in this case the East Java Provincial Government, confiscates the respective sex shop's right to operate. More than that, the authorities should go deeper into examining the company's motives for opening a sex shop. There might be an ulterior motif to destroy the nation's morals and mentality, especially those of the younger generation.
