Sewage clearance for flood victims

TANGERANG: The Tangerang administration is providing a free service to clean sewage from houses hit by recent floods.

"If residents have returned to their house, the Housing and Resettlement Agency will be ordered to clean the sewage," Tangerang mayor, Moch. Thamrin, told Antara on Tuesday.

Even if houses are no longer under water, they may still be extremely dirty and smelly as the flood waters often came from overloaded sewage pipes.

The normal cost of cleaning up sewage would be between Rp 65,000 and Rp 90,000.

Tangerang was hit by huge floods last week, which peaked at four meters.

Areas where floodwaters have receded include the Petir subdistrict in Cipondoh and the Tajur subdistrict in Ciledug.--JP
