Several injured in student brawl

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: A dozen students were injured when
pupils from two technical high schools started a brawl in
Banyumas regency yesterday.

Banyumas Police chief Lt. Col. Agus Yudarto told Antara that
the clash occurred between students of Strapangsada technical
high school of Jatilawang subdistrict and Bunda Satria technical
high school of Wangon subdistrict.

Agus said one student was seriously injured and under medical
treatment at a local hospital.

Agus claimed the situation was now calm.

The brawl broke out in reaction to rumors spread that a
student of Strapangsada school was being bullied by a student
from Bunda Satria school.

Approximately 140 angry students of Strapangsada school went
to the Bunda Satria school, but found only a few students in
front of the school. A fight quickly ensued.

Agus said police detained a number of students but they were
released after their parents came to take them home. (aan)
