Set a good example
Glancing at This Odd World (Nov. 21, 2000) I noticed that Germany's new transport minister admitted that he had once picked up a driving ban for speeding but said he had learned from the experience and now stuck to the speed limit.
This is a triviality in fact but of high value in philosophy because it teaches a good lesson to all of us, particularly those in power. The problem, now, is how far such a pedagogical phenomenon can be applied in this country. Is it possible for the authorities to pick up such discipline and set a good example to their people or is it possible for a teacher to do the same thing for his students?
Many educators argue about the best teaching strategy and the true answer rests on one thing and one thing alone, that is set a good example.
Indeed actions speak louder than words. So, let us learn from this case, as the most important educational goal is learning to learn (Luis Alberto Machado 1997).
