Servant's death leads to unrest
BANDUNG: Local residents of Cicadas, Bandung, became enraged
and destroyed a glaziery in which a 14-year-old servant died in
an accident on Thursday.
Witnesses said that Rohmat Saminur, a Banyumas resident who
had worked at the Sinar Jaya shop for just one day, was struck by
an automatic door at the back of his employer's house at 10 a.m.
The two-meter high automatic door was closing when Rohmat
attempted to pass through but failed. "The door, operated by
remote control, seemed to strike his neck and drew the body
downward," a resident, who asked for anonymity, said.
Rohmat died instantly. It took residents at least 30 minutes
to remove the body from the steel door.
The residents pelted the shop belonging to Santa Wirawan, a
Chinese-Indonesian, with stones, smashing the windows, and
blocked off the area around the shop.
Police brought the situation under control after dark. They
are now questioning Wirawan's son Tendi and another worker Agus.
