'Serambi' daily reduces pages

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: The Serambi Indonesia daily here has reduced its pages from 12 to eight in an austerity measure aimed at helping it through the economic crisis.

The newspaper's editor-in-chief, Sjamsul Kahar, said the page reduction was a result of the economic crisis which has seen the price of newsprint rise between 30 percent and 120 percent.

Sjamsul said the paper would return to a 12 page format again once the monetary crisis was over. He added that the daily would raise its price from Rp 900 to Rp 1,000 starting Feb. 2. (aan)
