Senior journalist dies
JAKARTA: Djohan Akbar, a senior journalist for a number of press publications, died on Tuesday of pneumonia.
Djohan was 74 years of age. He is survived by his wife, eight children and seven grandchildren. He was buried yesterday in Pasar Minggu. Djohan worked many years for the Antara news agency, at one time serving as its correspondent in Tokyo.
He was also a correspondent for Times of London and a Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad.
After he retired from Antara in 1983, he joined The Jakarta Post and continued to work there until 1990.
Colleagues remember Djohan as a dedicated journalist with sound English language writing skills, Antara reported. (par)
