Sempu Island for turtle breeding

SURABAYA: A natural resources conservation center in Jember, East Java, will breed turtles on Sempu Island, South Malang, Antara reported.

"Next month, some 300 turtles will be bred and put on show to educate the public about the need to protect these creatures," said Indra Arinal, the head of the center, in Jember Monday.

Sempu island is close to Malang, a tourist resort and the second largest city in East Java after the capital Surabaya. The island can be reached on foot from Malang and has become a special tourist attraction.
