Seminars on Islamic values

JAKARTA (JP): The organizing committee of the second Istiqlal
festival on Islamic culture to be held here in September will
hold a series of seminars on interaction between Islamic values
and local culture.

The seminars will be held from early August to September in a
number of cities, including Malang, Yogyakarta, Pontianak,
Denpasar, Bandung, Ujungpandang, Medan and Jakarta.

Aswab Mahasin, chairman of the scientific forum department of
the committee, said that the seminars will discuss Islam's
contribution in building national character. They will also
discuss the role of Islamic values in creating social harmony and
social welfare.

Results of the seminars will be discussed in a national
symposium in Jakarta on Sept. 24, one-day after the opening of
the Istiqlal festival by President Soeharto. (29)
