Seminar on women and osteoporosis

JAKARTA (JP): The local branch of Soroptimist International is scheduled to hold a seminar on women and osteoporosis at Erasmus Huis in South Jakarta on Saturday.

The seminar will be held in Bahasa Indonesia from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the organization's president Julie Marsaban said in a statement.

Osteoporosis is a condition marked by the gradual loss of bone mass resulting in an increased risk of bone fracture even from minor traumas, Julie said, adding, that women are more susceptible to osteoporosis.

Leading specialists in osteoporosis are expected to provide information on the nature of osteoporosis, its prevention and treatment, she said.

Soroptimist International is the largest women's service organization in the world and it has been established in more than 100 countries.

The seminar is sponsored by PT Roche Indonesia and all donations raised will go toward funding Soroptimist International's social projects such as scholarships for high school girls, health care for underprivileged pregnant women and the provision of free eye glasses sponsored by Lily Kasoem.

A shorter seminar on the same topic will also be held in English on Oct. 30. For further details, contact Julie Marsaban at phone/fax 7408260. (hhr)
