Seminar on anemia among women

LOMBOK, West Nusa Tenggara: A seminar on anemia among women of reproductive age will be held today in Selong, East Lombok, to be attended by 130 village midwives who deal with the women every day.

The seminar has been organized by the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) in cooperation with the state pharmaceutical company PT Kimia Farma state pharmaceutical company, and the local branch of the Indonesian Midwives Association.

Four experts will provide up-to-date information on the importance of regular consumption of iron tablets for women and adolescent girls.

According to the Ministry of Health, an estimated 50 percent to 70 percent of women in Indonesia suffer from anemia due to iron deficiency. Women require two times more iron than men, due to, among others, lack of iron rich food in their diet, monthly menstrual blood loss, pregnancy and childbirth.

The seminar coincides with the introduction of the new iron tablet, Aktifon.
