Semarang to host 21st STE c'ships
SEMARANG (JP): The Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) has picked Semarang to host the 21st Sarung Tinju Emas (STE) boxing championship from March 19 to March 24.
"Pertina has decided to stage the event in Semarang and Pertina's Central Java chapter chairman, Alvin Lie, has agreed to organize the tournament," Pertina's chairman of tournament commission, Bachter Rajasa, said on Saturday.
"The Central Java chapter has only two months to prepare for the event and it should set up local organizing committee soon," he added.
The Golden Glove championship is an elite boxing tournament with demanding requirements.
The participating boxers need to meet one of the following six criteria: be one of the national top five boxers, a finalist of 1999 championships in Batam, a finalist of the 2000 National Games in Surabaya, a winner at the 1999 National Junior Championships in Jakarta, a member of the Kuala Lumpur 2001 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games training center or one of the best athletes in Pertina chapters.
The March event is actually the championship for the 2000 calendar while the event for 2001 is to be held sometime in November with the West Java chapter as host. (har)
