Semarang to build embankments

SEMARANG: Semarang administration is planning to build embankments along the coast of Semarang city, following frequent high tides resulting in flooding in residential areas.

Semarang Mayor Sukawi Sutarip said the administration had allocated between Rp 10 billion and Rp 15 billion (US$ 1.6 million) for the project, which will start next year.

Flooding has also dogged other nearby areas along the north coast of Java, including in Kendal and Demak regencies. -- JP
