Semarang has new military commander

SEMARANG, Central Java: Maj. Gen. Soebagyo HS, the chief of the Diponegoro regional military command, yesterday installed Lt. Col. Moch. Wahju Riyanto as chief of the Semarang military command to replace Lt. Col. I Putu Sastra Wingarta.

Antara quoted Soebagyo as saying that Semarang is a strategic city and that stability here is vital for its development. He called on members of the military command to monitor the dynamics of community life and prevent unrest from developing. (swe)
