Sedona Makassar to open

JAKARTA (JP): Ujungpandang, the capital of South Sulawesi, will have a new star-rated hotel, the Sedona Makassar, in November.

The 230-room Sedona Makassar will offer special rates for three months.

Ujungpandang has been chosen by the government as one of the country's three major air transport hubs together with Jakarta and Medan, North Sumatra. Star-rated hotels are therefore needed to accommodate the increasing number of foreign tourists in the province.

Ujungpandang currently has only a few star-rated hotels, including the Makassar Golden, the Marannu and the Radisson.

A number of hotel chains plan to open hotels there within the next few years, including Novotel and Sahid International.

Sedona Hotels International is affiliated with Straits Steamship Land (SSL) of Singapore which is currently also developing the Sedona Dive Resort in Manado, North Sulawesi, jointly with the Salim Group of Indonesia and Singapore Airlines.

Sedona, established in 1994, also manages a number of other hotels in Padang (West Sumatra), Bintan (Riau) and Sydney, Australia. (icn)
