Security officers' deployment
JAKARTA (JP): All security officers in charge of maintaining security in the capital will be deployed on May 17, two days ahead of the start of the campaign period, city police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman said on Monday.
Speaking at a parade of security officers at the Senayan east parking lot, Noegroho said total deployment would consist of 62,363 officers, including People's Security (Kamra) civilian militia.
The parade, attended by at least 30,000 personnel, was led by National Police deputy chief Lt. Gen. Nana Permana.
Nana reminded all the personnel to be responsible in carrying out their tasks to safeguard the campaign period and election to guarantee fairness and justice.
He also said all personnel should act sympathetically and not offend people.
"We're all public servants... we only know one thing: serving people and being as sympathetic as possible in doing our tasks," he said.
The 62,363 personnel to be deployed comprises 6,051 soldiers, 16,360 police officers and 39,952 Kamra members as well as other civilian forces.
Certain areas will be given high priority in security such as the House of Representatives building, where 2,430 personnel will be stationed.
Other high priority spots are TVRI state television station which will have 100 personnel to guard it, RRI state radio station with 100 personnel, the National Monument (Monas) with 900 personnel, Suropati park in Menteng area with 420 personnel and President B.J. Habibie's residential area in Patra Kuningan with 330 personnel. (emf)
