Security in E. Java remains tight
SURABAYA, East Java: East Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Sutanto
said on Thursday that it would continue to maintain tight
security at a number of locations in the province.
"We don't want to take any risks as bomb terror can happen at
anytime, anywhere," he said.
Jl. Soetomo, where the U.S. consulate office is located,
remained closed on Thursday.
Police were also checking the bags of visitors to Plaza
Tunjungan, Plaza Surabaya and Galaxy Mall -- the three largest
shopping malls in Surabaya.
Tight security was also maintained at a coal-fired power plant
in Paiton, a hydropower plant in Karang Kates, the Java-Bali
electricity transmission lines, Juanda airport, Tanjung Perak
seaport and Ketapang seaport.
"We don't want any explosion in Surabaya like those in
Bandung, West Java," he said. --JP
