Security guard finds a grenade

JAKARTA: A live hand grenade was found in front of Carrefour
hypermarket in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

Online news portal www.detik.com said that the grenade was
found inside a plastic bag by a security guard, Dede Yaman, at
about 8:30 p.m.

Dede had suspicions about the bag and checked it only to find
that there was a pineapple-style hand grenade inside.

Police officers from Cempaka Putih subprecinct then took it to
the bomb disposal unit in Kelapa Dua, Depok.

Security concerns have heightened here recently following the
bomb blast at the police headquarters compound last week, an
explosion in Cakung and a bomb hoax on Sunday at the police
headquarters.

Analysts say security concerns will be further heightened if
the U.S. attacks Iraq.-- JP
