Security guard dies fighting off robbers

JAKARTA (JP): A security guard lost his life while trying to defend two robbery victims against 15 armed robbers in the Suka Damai subdistrict of Serang, Bekasi, early Tuesday morning, city police spokesman said.

Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis identified the dead victim as 40-year- old Sukirman, who succeeded in saving the lives of robbery victims Alberto, a 48-year-old Filipino marketing representative, and 24-year-old Susi, an Indonesian.

"The robbers got away with 6.5 kilograms of gold and a computer. They entered the warehouse armed with guns and sharp weapons. They came and threaten Alberto and Susi with the weapons," Zainuri said.

"Sukirman came in the middle of it and bravely tried to fight off the robbers. He didn't have a chance."

The robbers chopped off Sukirman's hand before stabbing him in the buttocks and the flank. One of the stab wounds was 20 centimeters deep.

"Sukirman died instantly. His body was later transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue in Central Jakarta." (01/ylt)
