Search for soldiers bodies ended
SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Rescue workers ended on Wednesday their search for the bodies of three soldiers who are believed to have died after their boat capsized in Mahakam River more than two weeks ago.
The military commander of Samarinda, Lt. Col. Rudy Landung, said the rescue team would end their search, but surveillance around the spot of the accident would continue.
"We are ending our search and rescue mission after our two week-long effort proved fruitless," Rudy said as quoted by Antara.
Second sergeants Sunarto, Turuk and Gandrung, from the intelligence unit of the Tanjung Pura Military Command overseeing Kalimantan, went missing after their boat overturned as they were traveling to Tebalai in Kutai from the neighboring district of Muara Kaman on Feb. 17.
Six people were on board the boat at the time of the accident.
