SEA Games to use old scoring system

JAKARTA (JP): The president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Datuk Nadzmi Salleh, announced on Tuesday the old scoring system of the best-of-three games, with games lasting 15 points, would be employed at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur from Sept. 8 to Sept. 17.

"Our players train using this scoring system. We are so used to it and will adopt this system during the coming SEA Games," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Nadzmi said Malaysia also had a better chance of winning more medals at the Games under the old scoring system. BAM is targeting one of seven gold medals at stake in the badminton competition.

The International Badminton Federation has encouraged its members to apply the new scoring system of the best-of-five games, with games lasting seven points, in all tournaments until the end of the year. (yan)
