Schools merged for efficiency

YOGYAKARTA: The province has completed the merger of 74 elementary schools which began last year in an effort to economize and make the administration more effective, the head of the local education office said here on Thursday.

Setyarini Hadiwidjojo said the 74 elementary schools were merged into 43, while another three were closed.

"It was done based on Gubernatorial Decree No. 126/1999 to make it more effective and efficient," he said as quoted by Antara.

"In some cases two schools were merged into one, while in others it involved three schools being merged," he said adding that the number of teachers and schools were now more comparable. (mds)
