Schoolboy hangs himself

JAKARTA: A 13-year-old boy was found dead, hanging from his
bedroom ceiling by a rope noose, Monday night in West Jakarta.

The second-form junior high school student had been rebuked by
his mother for joining a Golkar campaign rally.

A sergeant at the Cengkareng police subprecinct said yesterday
that Eko Santoso had been found dead at about 8 p.m. in his house
on Jl. Cengkareng Timur.

"The boy is believed to have committed suicide after his
mother reprimanded him for coming home late from school... he had
just come back from a rally in the afternoon," the sergeant said.

He said the boy, who arrived home at about 6 p.m., had gone to
his bedroom after his mother had told him not to come home late
again.

Eko had not replied after his mother had called him for dinner
so she went in to his room and found him dead, the sergeant said.

Suyono picked up his son's body from the Cipto Mangunkusumo
General Hospital morgue yesterday. (jun)
