Scholars group has no permit

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: The newly-founded Association for Pancasila Development (PCPP) launched over the weekend has yet to obtain the official permit.

Chief of the Banyumas socio-political office Lt. Col. Soegeng told The Jakarta Post yesterday that he summoned the organization's chairman, Rubijato, to discuss the matter.

The association, whose members are mostly teachers at Purwokerto's Soedirman University, is still drawing up its statute, according to Soegeng.

Rubijato said that ever since he launched the organization on Saturday, countless callers from across the country have been asking him for more details.

Many intellectuals from major towns such as Semarang and Yogyakarta have also shown interest in joining and establishing local branches, he said.

The university's rector, Soebardi AS, and local military chief Col. Andy Subur Abdullah said the news about the launching of the organization had taken them by surprise because they had not been informed before. (wah/pan)
