Schneider Indonesia provides its customers with dependable services. Its network of after sales service and maintenance teams, based in Jakarta and Surabaya, is ready to give quick responses on calls for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Schneider organizes its trading activities based on its customers' specific needs. Its Power Division serves mainly the state-owned electricity company PLN in supplying medium voltage distribution, high voltage and extra high voltage substations and power plants auxiliaries.

The Industry Division serves the needs of electric power distribution equipment and automation control systems of industrial plants, commercial buildings, mining oil and gas sector, private power plants and transportation facilities such as airports, harbors and railway stations.

The Standard Product Division serves the needs of electrical components for the open market and for its own internal consumption.

Contracting is backed up by reliable professionals in the respective field of project engineering, with Schneider doing the concept designing, installation, testing and commissioning.

Product specialists assist customers in maintaining the high performance of their equipment and minimizing downtime. Easy communication access is provided by special lines.

Its two manufacturing facilities yield products that meet the international standards of IEC, NEMA, ANSI and the LMK local standard.

The Cikarang Equipment Factory is located at the East Jakarta Industrial Park. Producing mainly low and medium voltage switchgears, with 28 percent local content and reaching production volume of 13,500 units per year, this factory employs 450 people.

The Circuit Breaker Factory is located in Sidoarjo, East Java, producing miniature circuit breakers, with 70 percent local content and a production volume of four million poles annually. The factory holds certificates of ISO 9002 for management and SPLN 108:93 for its product. It employs 250 people and, since December, 1995, exports to other Asian countries.

Besides its headquarters in Jakarta, Schneider also has several branch offices, located in Medan, Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya, and resident engineers in Ujungpandang, Balikpapan, Denpasar and Surakarta.

Some of the major facilities utilizing Schneider products are:

* Cikarang Listrindo, Indonesia's first private power plant, located in Bekasi, uses 150 kV switch yard and utilities controller.

* Buaran Water Treatment Plant, Jakarta, the biggest treatment plant utilizing low voltage and motor control center.

Cement Tonasa, South Sulawesi, utilizes low voltage switchboards, medium voltage switchgears, and process automation.

* Tanjung Priok Harbor, North Jakarta, consumes Telemecanique programmable controllers and variable speed values to control the container cranes.

The Schneider Indonesia organization comprises 1,200 people. The upper-low, middle and top management sections are professionals with solid backgrounds of tertiary education in technical fields and business administration from reputable local and overseas universities.

All employees are required to have a minimum 40 training hours each year for their development. Its engineers must take technical training as required by each position level.

For over 17 years, Schneider Indonesia has been active in producing electrical equipment and engineering and construction services, with the well-known main brands of Merlin Gerin, Square D, and Telemecanique.

Having decades of experience in the world of electrical distribution and process controls, Groupe Schneider advanced its Indonesian branch as early as 1978, teaming up with Ometraco Group.

In 1988, this long and successful partnership resulted in a joint venture named PT Merlin Gerin Indonesia (MGI), to meet formidable electrical demands and to keep up with the rapid transfer of technology.

Since then, MGI has expanded tenfold along with the steadily- growing electrical market. From this point, PT Merlin Gerin Omelec (MGO) was appointed the local sole agent for low voltage components and uninterruptible power supplies.

By the end of 1993, MGI became Schneider Indonesia and MGO became PT Schneider Ometraco, following the acquisition of Telemecanique in France back in 1988 and Square D in the U.S. in 1990 by Groupe Schneider.
