Schizophrenia initiated by some indicative symptoms

JAKARTA (JP): Some symptoms which may indicate a person is schizophrenic are:

* inability to sleep, unusual waking hours;

* social withdrawal, isolation;

* weakening in social relations;

* hyperactivity, or inactivity, or alternation;

* inability to concentrate;

* unusual preoccupation with religion or the occult;

* unusual emotional reactions;

* unusual sensitivity to stimuli (noise, light);

* hostility, suspicion, fearfulness;

* bizarre behavior: refusal to touch people, constant wearing of gloves, shaving head or body hair, cutting oneself, threats of self-mutilation;

WHO's classification of mental and behavioral disorders comprise:

* Organic, including symptomatic, mental disorder (including Alzheimer's, dementia and delirium);

* Mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use (including mental and behavioral disorders due to use of alcohol, cocaine and tobacco);

* Schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders;

* Mood (affective) disorders (including manic episode, bipolar affective disorder and depressive episode);

* Neurotic, stress related and somatoform disorders (including phobic anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and somatoform disorders);

* Behavioral syndromes associated with physiological disturbances and physical factors (including anorexia nervosa, bulimia, sleep disorder, sexual dysfunction);

* Disorders of adult personality and behavior (including gender identity disorders, disorders of sexual preference);

* Mental retardation;

* Disorders of psychological development;

* Behavioral and emotional disorders with onset usually occurring in childhood and adolescence. (icn)
