SCB customers win Rp 250m

JAKARTA (JP): Five Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) customers from Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya and Semarang recently won a total cash prize of Rp 250 million (some US$30,000).

The cash prizes, part of the Sweet Millions Draw, culminated a six-month promotion.

Standard Chartered's head of consumer banking business, Farhad Irani, handed over a check for Rp 50 million to each of the winners early last week.

Over a thousand SCB customers were awarded gold brooches and pendants during the promotion, which lasted from October 1998 to March 1999.

Irani said the bank spent over Rp 1 billion on cash and gold prizes for the promotion, which was meant to reward customers for choosing the bank.

The bank opened its newly refurbished branch in Jakarta and a new Priority Banking Center on Jl. Sudirman last month.

Standard Chartered Bank has operated in Indonesia for over 135 years and has five branches in the country. The branches are located in Jakarta; Medan, North Sumatra; Bandung, West Java; Semarang, Central Java; and Surabaya, East Java. It also operates a number of Automated Banking Centers. (cst)
