Scavengers jailed for stealing

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor District Court sentenced on Thursday two scavengers Endi, 20, and Karnita, 25, to jail terms of respectively one year and eight months for stealing several knockdown furniture sets.

In his verdict, presiding judge Mattheus said Endi was found guilty as the mastermind of the theft, while Karnita had assisted Endi.

"Both Endi and Karnita were guilty of violating Article 363 and 362 of the Criminal Code respectively," Mattheus said.

He said Rudi burgled the Bogor furniture shop in the early hours of May 22.

After stealing the furniture sets, which were still packaged in boxes, Endi asked Karnita to help shift the stolen goods.

"The goods were all sold at Rp 90,000," the judge said.

In a separate court session, Taram Brojol, 25, was sentenced to 10 months in jail for buying the stolen goods from Endi.

Prosecutor Harlan Mardite said investigations had revealed that Endi had stolen from the furniture shop on several occasions prior to his arrest. (24/hhr)
