Saucy thieves hit soy factory

BOGOR: Four armed men robbed soy sauce producer PT Sinar Nusa Cemerlang in Kampung Kembang Kuning, Klapanunggal district, early on Monday, making off with a safe containing Rp 100 million (US$11,235) in cash.

Two security guards, Susmanta and Eris, told police that the robbers had gained entry to the compound some time before 1:30 a.m., when the two were watching a soccer game on television.

The robbers bound up the guards and gagged them, before locking them inside their guard post.

The four then went to a house occupied by the company's production manager, Hadi Wijaya, which is located inside the compound.

One of the raiders hit him three times on the head with the butt of a gun and fired a shot into the ceiling to frighten Hadi into showing them where the company kept the money.

Klapanunggal Police are still investigating the case. -- JP
