Satya Wacana in lawsuit
SALATIGA, Central Java: Satya Wacana Christian University, barely over internal conflicts, has been hit with a Rp 365 million ($160,000) lawsuit by 15 villagers alleging that the college's foundation took their land.
In a petition filed at the Ungaran district court in Semarang, the Karanganyar villagers said that the college has occupied their land, resulting in a Rp 365 million loss in earnings since 1970.
The university's rector John JOI Ihalauw welcomed the villagers' decision to settle the matter in court.
However, he insisted that the foundation had legally bought the land and is prepared to prove it in court. (har)
