Satelindo offers new service

JAKARTA (JP): Cellular operator PT Satelindo launched a new service on Monday enabling its Mentari subscribers to continue receiving calls and messages using the short message service (SMS) even when their prepaid credits had been used up.

"As of today (Monday), customers will be able to receive calls and SMS until their cards expire," Satelindo's senior executive vice president for cellular service Jan Nilsson said in a statement.

Previously, subscribers to Satelindo's prepaid service, called Mentari, could only receive calls and SMS when their subscriber identity module (SIM) cards had been refilled with call credits.

Nilsson said the service was part of Satelindo's program to increase mobility for its prepaid customers, which includes the elimination of domestic roaming charges last month.(tnt)
