Satelindo launches MMS

JAKARTA: Cellular operator PT Satelit Palapa Indonesia (Satelindo) launched on Thursday its multimedia messaging service for customers to send text, voice and pictures.

"In the first phase, the service is only available to customers in Greater Jakarta. Medan, Batam, Surabaya, Bandung and Semarang will follow," Indosat's director of product and customer service S. Wimbo S. Hardjito was quoted by Antara as saying.

Satelindo is a subsidiary of telecommunications firm Indosat, which is now controlled by Singapore Technologies Telemedia.

In the beginning, the service was only available to Satelindo's Matrix customers, but Mentari customers will be able to enjoy the service from October this year.

Satelindo charges Matrix customers Rp 1,000 (about 11 US cents) per 50-kilobyte message, while Mentari customers have to pay Rp 1,250 per 50-kilobyte message. -- JP
