Satelindo, ICOroam tie up

JAKARTA (JP): Subscribers to GSM cellular operator Satelindo can now roam in the AMPS network while in North America thanks to a roaming cooperation agreement signed recently by Satelindo and international mobile satellite telecommunications operator ICOroam.

Satelindo said ICOroam's subscribers would be able to roam in Indonesia using Satelindo's network beginning next month.

Customers of Satelindo can keep their mobile phone number but must rent an AMPS handset from appointed providers while traveling to North America, because the GSM system is minimally served in the region.

Customers roaming in either the Satelindo or ICOroam network will be charged an international roaming fee plus a 15 percent surcharge. (cst)
