SARS hits artist's restaurants

JAKARTA: The SARS scare that has swept across the globe has dealt a heavy blow to entertainer Roni Sianturi's seafood restaurants in Jakarta.

"Since the SARS scare began, people have been reluctant to visit public places. My restaurants have lost quite a few patrons although I have retained my regular customers," Roni said.

Roni, whose given name is Ronaldus Parasian Sianturi, said his loyal patrons loved to give him input on the dishes served at his restaurants.

The former husband of pop singer Atiek CB, Roni is a well- known singer, presenter, actor and master of ceremony.

Born in Makassar, South Sulawesi, the 39-year-old Roni has two restaurants, Pondok Aroma Laut, specializing in seafood a la Makassar.

During a media event for the launch of Larasati, his new TV series to be aired by SCTV, he took the time to discuss how to prepare some of the dishes.

The Trio Libels member said he still had the time to supervise his restaurants despite his busy acting and singing schedule. --JP
