Santa Fe finds oil
JAKARTA (JP): The state oil company Pertamina, in cooperation with the U.S. Santa Fe Company, have found a new oil resource with an estimated output capacity of 2,020 barrels per day in the Tuban block in East Java.
Bambang Sutarso, general manager of the Pertamina-Santa Fe Joint Operation Board, said that the oil was found at the Mudi-1 well in Rahayu village, Tuban.
He was quoted by Antara news agency as saying in Surabaya on Tuesday that the discovery was also reported to East Java Governor Basofi Soedirman.
Bambang said that Santa Fe was awarded a 7,391-square kilometer concession area in East Java in 1988 under a joint operation contract with Pertamina, covering the southern part of Surabaya and a number of nearby regencies such as Gresik, Lamongan and Tuban.
Last year, Santa Fe found oil and gas at the Gondang well in Lamongan with a production capacity of 708 barrels of oil per day and 4.4 million cubic feet of natural gas daily. (fhp)
