Sampang chiefs demand regent

SURABAYA, East Java: Some 182 village chiefs from Sampang on
Madura island met here on Wednesday with East Java Governor Imam
Utomo to demand the immediate installation of regent elect
Fadhillah Budiono.

The public service in Sampang has been crippled for months due
to the absence of the regent.

Fadhilah was elected as Sampang regent mid-last year but his
inauguration was canceled at the last minute due to reports on
his alleged involvement in corruption.(nur)
