Sales of stickers for vehicle owners
JAKARTA (JP): Vehicle owners renewing documents at City Police headquarters from Monday will be forced to buy stickers to finance the 19th Southeast Asian Games, an official said yesterday.
The city's coordinator for vehicle ownership documents, Manahan P. Situmorang, said anyone processing or extending documents would have to pay Rp 5,000 (US$1.70) for a sticker.
"The sales of the stickers will be applied to all four-wheeled vehicles' documents at the vehicle registration and document service offices in East and North Jakarta, and City Police Headquarters," Manahan said.
People who want to extend or obtain new tax documents for their motorcycles would not have to buy the stickers, he said.
The vehicle registration and document service office at the headquarters, alone, usually handles between 500 and 800 cars a day.
Manahan said that the sales would continue until Oct. 19, in line with Gubernatorial Decree Number 1242.
The city started the sticker scheme for various services, including water, electricity and telephone bills and car documents in March.
But it was suspended in June after many people objection to it, saying it was an unnecessary burden on them.
The sales, through electricity and telephone bills, however, continued despite the suspension notice. (cst)
