Sailors nabbed for theft

BATAM, Riau: Five sailors of a ship bearing the United States flag have been arrested for allegedly stealing mining material, including cooper, and trying to smuggle it into Singapore.

"The five men admitted to committing the crime during their preliminary questioning," local police chief Lt. Col. Nicholaus Eko told Antara on Saturday.

He declined to name the suspects, who could have cost the country some US$4 million.

The police nabbed the suspects after some people reported the theft. (04)
