Sahid group builds 33-story tower

JAKARTA (JP): The Sahid Jaya group has commenced the construction of a 33-story office building on Jl. Jend. Sudirman, South Jakarta, which is expected to cost about US$86 million to complete.

A ground-breaking ceremony was held yesterday to mark the start of construction work. The tower is expected to be completed by the end of 1997.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Public Housing Akbar Tandjung, Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Real Estate Developers Enggartiasto Lukita and the president of PT Hotel Sahid Jaya International -- the owner of the building -- Sukamdani S. Gitosardjono.

Sukamdani said that the Sahid office tower is part of the six- hectare Pura Kencana Indah "superblock," including the five-star Sahid Jaya Hotel, Istana Sahid Apartment and the 50-story Sahid Berkah Hotel project. The latter, with a planned capacity of 650 rooms, is expected to be completed in 1998.

He said that Sahid office tower would have a total space of 54,435 square meters.

The building will be equipped with a mosque with capacity of 700 people, he said. (32)
