Sabam accused of insulting Golkar

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Medan municipality Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) will report Sabam Sirait from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) to the police for his allegedly slanderous comment on the Golkar Party.

Deputy chairman of the Medan Panwaslu, Yulhasni, said on Thursday that Golkar Party officials had complained to Panwaslu that Sabam insulted Golkar during a campaign in Belawan on March 13.

According to Golkar officials, Sabam had discredited Golkar by asking, "Do we still want to be led by Golkar?"

"The complaint will be forwarded to the police within two days," Yulhasni told The Jakarta Post.

He explained that if Sabam was found guilty of insulting Golkar, he could face a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison. -- JP
