S. Sumatra to send 600 workers to Japan

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: The head of the South Sumatra manpower office, Djufri Mat Akin, said here on Saturday the province would send some 600 workers to Japan to work on a contractual basis for about three years.

He said the candidates would have to undergo basic training in the Japanese language and pass a physical test before leaving for Japan.

"To avoid language problems while working in Japan, the candidates have to master basic Japanese prior to their departure," Djufri said.

He said the workers from South Sumatra would be employed in electronics factories and other industrial companies.

"After gaining work experience and skills in that industrialized country, they are expected to return and develop their province by opening new job opportunities," Djufri said. -- Antara
