S. Sumatra to build new toll road

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: State toll operator PT Jasa Marga and the South Sumatra local government plan to build a 23- kilometer-long toll road linking Palembang with Indrajaya.

Jasa Marga president Syarifudin Alambai and South Sumatra Governor H. Rosihan Anwar signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding for the Rp 600 billion (US$68.9 million) project.

Witnessing the signing was H Taufik Kiemas, the husband of President Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Syarifudin said that Jasa Marga had been concentrating its toll road construction in Java only. The Palembang-Indrajaya toll road would be the first of its kind built outside Java. -- Antara
