S. Korea golfers keep Asian Cup

CHEJU ISLAND, South Korea (Agencies): Korean duo of Choi Gwang-soo and Park Nam-sin held off a spirited challenge from a much younger Thai team on Sunday to successfully defend the Johnnie Walker Asian Nations Cup at Pinx Golf Club.

Korea took the title by two shots after closing with a foursome score of par 72 for a total of 22-under-par 266.

Thailand's Chawalit Plaphol and Thammanoon Sriroj fired a 67 for the best score of the day, finishing eight ahead of Malaysia's Danny Chia and Rashid Ismail.

Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia qualified for the ECM World Cup in Argentina in December. Malaysia took the third place after firing a 68.

In the play-off for fourth place, Singapore's Lam Chih Bing and Poh Eng Wah beat Chinese Taipei to become the first alternate for the World Cup. (nvn)
