Ruth to sing in Acropolis
After receiving a series of awards at several international singing festivals, singer Ruth Sahanaya, or Uthe as she is known, finally made some moves that might open the door for her career to really go global.
Uthe will be the guest performer in a two-day concert of young Greek tenor Mario Frangoulis next week, singing a duet called Naturaleza Muerta.
The song will be included in Uthe's soon-to-be-released album, and also the Asian edition of Frangoulis' debut album Sometimes I Dream.
The duet was made possible as both share the same label, Sony Music, which Uthe joined recently after her contract with Aquarius record company ended.
"This is like a dream comes true for me. Imagine, I'm going to sing in the amphitheater of Acropolis," Uthe told a media conference on Friday.
Sony Music Indonesia's managing director Sutanto Hartono said that his office here proposed the duet to Sony's headquarters in New York.
"It wasn't difficult, though, to get the contract, given Uthe's reputation and achievement as a singer," he said.
Uthe said the duet was a challenge because she is a pop singer who is used to improvising, while Frangoulis is a classical singer.
"So, I have to sing straight, no improvisation allowed. But believe me, I'll sing perfectly. I won't be a disgrace to this nation," she laughed. -- JP
