Russian sends Utut reeling
JAKARTA (JP): Alexander Morozevich of Russia tore Indonesian Utut Adianto's hopes of an elo rating hike apart with a 26th move victory on the final day of the Donner Memorial chess tournament in Amsterdam on Friday.
It was an unhappy ending for Utut, who sought a consolation increase on his rating to 2,625 after his bid to finish among the top five in the 12-field invitational meet had failed. Utut managed only 5 points after 11 games and was pushed from seventh to eighth place. He needed 6 points to improve his rating.
The modest outcome. however, will not affect Utut's current elo rating of 2,605. The Indonesian bagged 1,500 guilders for finishing eighth, plus 3,500 guilders in appearance money.
Ukraine's Vassily Ivanchuk and Julio Granda Zuniga of Peru shared the top spot, with 7 points each. (amd)
