Russia offers scholarships

JAKARTA: The Russian government has announced its intention to offer 20 scholarships for Indonesian students to study in Russia every year.

"At the moment, we have about 100 Indonesians studying in our country, mostly through scholarships. Most of them are studying medicine or engineering," said deputy director of the international education and cooperation division of Russia's ministry of education, Alexei V. Talonov, here on Monday.

Talonov said the scholarships were worth between US$1,200 and $2,200 per year. "To acquire a bachelor's degree takes no more than three years, and, to gain a master's degree, an additional two or three years," he said.

Talonov was in Jakarta with a delegation of representatives of 14 universities in Russia who will hold a Russian Education Expo from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 at the Center of Russian Culture and Science on Jl. Diponegoro No. 12 in Central Jakarta. --JP
