Russia offers 25 scholarships

JAKARTA: The Russian government has offered scholarships to 25 Indonesians interested in pursuing academic careers in various universities in the eastern European country in the 2002/2003 academic year.

Head of the Russian Scientific and Cultural Center in Jakarta Alexander N. Kumarov said on Tuesday that the scholarships would be awarded for bachelor degrees and post-graduate studies.

Apart from impressive school records, under-graduate applicants must not be older than 27 years. Post-graduate applicants are limited to those with five years work experience and a maximum age of 35 years.

The Russian government awarded scholarships to 20 Indonesians last year.

During their study, scholarship recipients will be accommodated in dormitories together with Russian students, Kumarov said.

He reminded the applicants of a law requiring foreigners studying in Russia to provide US$100 for medical insurance and another $100 for transportation expenses, and to secure sponsors to cover airfares.

Further information could be obtained at the center on Jl. Diponegoro 12, Central Jakarta. -- Antara
